School of Sacred Storytelling

Stories have marked the milestones of my life.  I grew up in Detroit in a multi-ethnic neighborhood where informal storytelling defined who we were.  My adult experience as teacher and school media specialist included many more opporunities to learn and share stories.  After retiring from the public schools, a master's degree program in Pastoral Ministry served as a springboard to put into practice and actually apply storytelling as a sacred art.

My work as a liturgist in a large suburban parish provided direction and a creative outlet.  Now as I continue to grow and move on, my ministry is changing and includes facilitating group spiritual direction and adult faith formation. I have discovered that stories, at their deepest level, ask and attempt to answer the universal questions:  Who am I?  Why am I here?  Where am I going?  Through my work, I have watched and observed the spiritual journey, guided by humankind's stories, moving through human experience to an experience of the Divine.  Stories of people and faith and life have expanded my consciousness, and Spirit has crept into my soul .

What have I learned through many years of telling and listening to stories; what wisdom can I share?  Perhaps only this:  how enriched and blessed are we who hear and share the stories, for we are connected to the Divine.  Ah! we sit at the feet of the goddess, and  "She-who-remembers" breathes new life..
