Dennis Strachota
OREGON Graduate 1998 Originally from Iowa, I am now a retired priest residing in Bend, Oregon, at the foot of the Cascade Mountains. It wasn't until after my first School of Sacred Storytelling seminar in 1993 that I really began to use stories in my homilies, teaching and sometimes for a little entertainment. As a result of my project in the Apprenticeship Program I established Tendrak Theatre, a marionette theatre, in 1998. I performed my first puppet show in second grade with the help of my mother and teacher. At present I am working on a project to adapt four old Czech fairy tales into marionette plays to be recorded on DVD. This past year I produced a CD containing five Christmas stories. One is based on the Scriptures and Tradition and the other four are original stories. The four stories take place in Moravia in the Middle Ages ca. 1200 AD involving Sir Marek, his friends and family. These inspirational and entertaining stories tell about the Christmas events interacting in people's lives. The stories are told by the storyteller Moudry, the Wiseman (aka. Dennis Strachota) with instrumental Christmas Carols between each story. The CD is professionally recorded and plays about 55 min. (The CDs are $15.00 each, buy three and get one free. Postage and handling at present are 1 CD $2.10; 2 CDs $2.75; 3 plus free CDs $5.30. For orders or more information please e-mail.) My favorite stories include Czech Fairytales, the Lives of Saints, Arthurian tales and Dragon stories. I am fascinated by the Middle Ages but am very happy that I live in the 21st century! |
