School of Sacred Storytelling

I grew up in Indiana where I received degrees in Environmental Interpretation from Purdue University. I've worked as a State Park naturalist and as an environmental educator in federal government service. Now living in Wisconsin, I continue to work as a naturalist with the University of Wisconsin Arboretum, local schools and environmental organizations.

Storytelling blends well with natural science and other science studies. Among stories, folktales and fables involve many aspects of the natural world. Such stories can provide deep human-environmental connections that science concepts alone can't always convey. I like to try to offer connections with such stories. And who knows but that some of those tales offer connections far deeper than their labels of anthropomorphism!

During my apprenticeship in the School of Sacred Storytelling, I explored stories about women in sacred traditions, history and folktales. These studies inspired me with compelling perspectives on female roles in history, tradition and lore. Such stories, which enlighten with their strength and choices, intelligence and wisdom, are ones I like to share.
