| Chris Lee-Thompson WISCONSIN Graduate 1996 I was born and raised in central Iowa and, ever since attending seminary in southern California and visiting my wife's family in New York, I have been a confirmed midwestener. I have served Lutheran ministries in Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin I am presently serving a congregation just outside Madison.Within the church, I use storytelling primarily in preaching to invite listeners into the scriptures and open some truth of the Biblical story to the reality of their lives. I have used a variety of traditional tales - from Jewish to Scandinavian, from Native American to midwestern family stories. I have told the passion stories from each of the synoptic gospels in their entirety. Whether in a simple recounting or an extensive refashioning, I am continually telling the Biblical story, so that people can hear it with freshness and power."I have told stories to a wide range of groups in other settings - churches (outside of worship), public and parochial schools, libraries, hospitals, universities and festivals. Audiences have included all ages and have ranged in size from one to over 600. I have led workshops for Sunday School teachers on telling Bible stories and retreats for individuals desiring spiritual growth through storytelling. I have spoken and written about storytelling for church professionals, therapists, and health workers." |
